Xiaomi today announced its 2021 edition of the Redmi G gaming laptop in China. The Redmi G comes with an aggressive starting price, Nvidia RTX 30-series GPUs and both Intel and AMD processor variants. Here’s all you need to know about the new laptop.




Xiaomi offers the RedmiBook range not only for students and professionals, but has also expanded the gaming segment with last year's Redmi G gaming laptop. It featured a 144Hz display, a 10th generation Intel CPU, and an Nvidia GeForce GTX GPU. Now, the Chinese giant has refreshed the Redmi G-series with an 11th-generation processor from Intel Core or AMD 5000, Nvidia RTX GPUs, and more.

The AMD variant Redmi G is the higher-end variant of the two. The laptop features a 230W power adapter compared to the Intel model which gets a 180W adapter. Both variants however get Xiaomi's Hurricane Cooling 3.0 heat dissipation system with large dual 12V fans.

The Redmi G 2021 sports a 16.1-inch 144Hz display and three-level backlit keyboards. Users also get WiFi 6 support and DTS X Ultra 3D Sound support for surround sound. Xiaomi's XiaoAI assistant is also embedded in the laptop. The Redmi G 2021 runs on Windows 10 and can be upgraded to Windows 11. It also packs USB Type-C charging.
Pricing and availability

The Redmi G 2021 Intel variant is priced at CNY 5,699 (about Rs 64,900) while the AMD version is priced at CNY 6,999 (about Rs 79,700). Availability in China is set to begin from Thursday, September 23, but the AMD variant goes live from September 28. No details on whether the laptops will be available in global markets including India are currently available.


Redmi G (2021) Gaming Laptop Announced

Xiaomi announced the Redmi G (2021) gaming laptop in China via its official Weibo handle recently. The device has a 16.1-inch Full HD display with support for a refresh rate of 144 Hz and a maximum resolution of 1920 x 1080p.

Under the hood, you can use the new Redmi G laptop with either the1st generation Intel Core i5-11260H processor or AMD Ryzen 7 5800H processor. The Intel SKU comes with the Nvidia RTX 3050 GPU along with the integrated Intel Iris XE graphics. The Ryzen SKU, on the other hand, contains the Nvidia RTX 3060 GPU along with the integrated Radeon graphics.

For thermal performance, the Redmi G laptop features the Hurricane Cooling 3.0 system, which is equipped with large 12V fans, five copper heatpipes, and four air outlets to keep the device cool during gaming or high-performance tasks.


In terms of connectivity, the device supports Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1 technology. Users can also connect up to three external 4K monitors at the same time. As for the battery and other features, both the Intel and AMD models come with a backlit keyboard. The Intel variant comes with a 180W power supply, while the AMD model comes with a 230W power supply.

In addition, the Redmi G (2021) laptop has two USB 3.2 ports, a USB 2.0 port, a USB-C port to support 4K monitors at 60 Hz, an HDMI port, a mini DP 1.4 port for 5K 60 Hz output and a Gigabit Ethernet port on board. There is also a 3.5mm audio jack and two DTS:X 2W speakers. The device runs Windows 10 by default and can be upgraded to the upcoming Windows 11 operating system.
Price and availability

The Redmi G (2021) with Intel CPU and RTX 3050 GPU costs 5,999 yuan (~Rs 65,092) in China. The AMD variant, on the other hand, costs 6,999 yuan (~ 79,940 rupees).

The Intel SKU of the Redmi G laptop will go on sale on September 23, tomorrow. The AMD SKU, on the other hand, will be available on September 28. There is no information about whether Xiaomi plans to release the devices in other regions such as India or Europe.
